I love the whole scramble to get ready for a Kastner Cup.
The Big One.
Last night was an epic crunch on the final assembly of the car we are
bringing to Lime RocK.
I rarely get a chance to report about a day when everything goes well and
as planned but here it is...
I knew that First and Foremost I had to make sure that my meticulously
restored axle assemblies went back where they belong.
This requires lots of swearing and fiddling.
Hammers, Punches, sockets, wrenches, lube, rags, jacks, wood...
A better man than me could get it done in less than 5 hours but that's
about what it took.
Clean, Perfect and Safety Wired.
Meanwhile my main man Brian Garcia was working on installing a fan on the
belly of a Dinosaur.
You all know that I am Too Period Correct for my own good.
But alas, after over 50 years without; we put a fan in so that we could do
the parade at Lime Rock.
Since we have no alternator we now have 2 batteries and a fan.
Initially I didn't want the fan to be permanently installed, but once we
realized that removing the fan would require disconnecting the radiator
hoses we settled on the weight penalty of the extra battery and the Derale
fan.
Anyway Brian did a great job with the wiring, battery, fan, switch, etc.
At one point I looked towards the front of the car and there he was laying
on the floor of my dirty garage, sweaty, and doing his electrical magic
with a drill and a test light.
Working like a man who expected money.
Onwards.
Left Front Caliper Rebuild.
Complete Fuel System and Fuel Tank Check
Oil Change.
All Fluid and Filter Changes and fresh Distilled water.
FIRE IN THE HOLE.
Fuel Pressure Check
Oil Pressure Check
Coming to Temp nicely and no leaks.
Ah...So Close to perfect; but a leak from our ancient spring loaded brass
pet cock was our slight defeat. (should be able to find something
to replace that)
We Think our car is pretty much ready to go.
It's Probably One of the Top 40 Triumphs in the country.
Time will tell.
This Lime Rock thing should be pretty fun.
