- My recommendation is to get a new high efficiency core. A good rad shop should be able to supply and install one. Lots of tubes and fins without large gaps seem to increase heat transfer. I prefer 4

- If the mainshaft 5th gear doesn't have end play after the nut is tightened there is a problem. Backing the nut off can lead to future problems. There is no best way to assure that the nut won't back

- I do them in a big vise. I find a socket that fits inside the bearing to push on the sleeve and a couple of blocks to hold the bearing from the other side. I have always been able to push them apart
