All I can say is that I've never experienced this in the many Spitfires I've had the sad duty to, er, "decommission" over the years. The bodies were completely painted before trimming of any kind too

It's a Herald 1147 motor, but odds are it would have had the Spitfire cam as original, and most likely an 8.0:1 CR (as opposed to the Spit's 8.5:1). So it's pretty close to a Spitfire "Mk.1" motor. W
