The emissions control systems varied a lot over the years - check your workshop manual to see if the car actually *wants* a PCV valve. I know that later MGs were plumbed with a gulp valve and no PCV,

I think you may have some of that wrong - in the US, at least, if you ordered O/D you got the 3.89 rear end. Many of the internal bits of the GT6+ gearbox are interchangeable with the later Spit 1500
