Subject: [6pack] new shocks
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net

when was the last time you looked at your rear shocks?

I noticed one of them was really leaking, so I decided to replace both.

here is all the information, including the receipt from the place where I
ordered the rebuilt ones, and then returned the cores. I thought their prices
were really good, and they include a label you just put on the box to return
them.

replacing the shocks takes about an hour if youbre slow like me!

I asked for the heavy duty valves, and I think it makes a difference. having
new shocks made a HUGE difference!

Subject: [6pack] Alternator--'75 Tr-6
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net

An electronic diagnostic check of my charging system showed an very weak
battery and a bad diode in the alternator. The 11 year old battery was
replaced two weeks ago and sat on a battery tender until yesterday. A
rebuilt alternator was installed yesterday--by me. Unplug the old and
plug in the new. The car fired immediately with a fresh battery and the
voltmeter showed the system charging at 13 volts. However, my multimeter
showed the battery at 12 .6 volts regardless of engine speed. I loaded
up the system with headlights and fan and could not see any difference
in the rate of charge. 12.6 volts flat--regardless of engine speed.
Drove it a few miles and checked the battery again and it was showing
12.3 volts. While running I pulled off the positive lead from the
battery and the engine died immediately. So the engine was running off
the battery--not the alternator. Of course, I suspect a duff
alternator. Freshly rebuilt and sold by one of the 'big 3.' I
disconnected the plug from the alternator and with the engine running
tried to get a reading to see if the alternator was putting out
anything--but all I got was a rapidly changing reading on my
meter--really rapid--some sort of jibberish. So, short of taking the
alternator to a speialty shop to have it tested what can I do to
determine is there is output from my 2 day old unit? If yes--than I
must have a problem somewhere between the wiring plug to the alternator
and the battery--yes?

After starting, your car runs off the alternator. While doing so, it also
provides a trickle charge to the battery. Disconnecting the battery on an
alternator equipped car is not recommended. You could do this with cars
equipped with generators but not so with alternators. I don't think you
have a problem.

Hi,

I'm thinking about an engine conversion from the present inline 6 to a Rover
V8. Can anyone tell me exactly what to look for (ie. engine sizes, make
years, source, etc). Any other pertinent information would be great.

Thanks,

Subject: [6pack] Tr6 engine replacement

Hi,
I'm thinking about an engine conversion from the present inline 6 to a Rover
V8. Can anyone tell me exactly what to look for (ie. engine sizes, make
years, source, etc). Any other pertinent information would be great.
Thanks,

James Maddox '75 Tr6

You folks need to think outside the box. The perfect engine for the TR6 is
the Toyota Supra. 6 cyl, dbl ovhd cams, twin turbos.

Hmmmm, I thought this message was from the 6-pack list. The group
dedicated to 6 cylinder Triumphs.

My master and booster need a rebuild or replacement. I've heard new masters are junk...
Was it a specific brand master cyl that was worse than another?
Is there anywhere reliable these days to have this done?
I thought it was Apple but then I read lots of bad reviews when I googled them.
The guy up in NorCal has retired. White Post Restos - haven't called but I'm guessing they're pricey.

Any thoughts?

I recently had a brake booster rebuilt by them. I was very satisfied with
the results.

Hi Gang,

I had mixed results from Apple, also. Mostly poor. I had rear shocks and
both brake and clutch masters rebuilt by them and let's just say that
longevity wasn't their strong suit. New clutch masters and slaves are now
available so rebuilding doesn't make sense. I'm not sure about brake
masters. Back in 2006 these guys posted on the list saying they're
rebuilding boosters. I haven't had occasion to try them but they're probably
worth a call:
