Subject: [Bricklin] Sad news - John Cherba's passing

Errors-To: bricklin-bounces@autox.team.net

I heard earlier today that John Cherba had passed, but I couldn't
find any proof.
I just had third hand info.

Stuart just posted this link to John's Obit.
http://www.vanemburghsneider.com/_mgxroot/page_10780.php?id=1406731

So unfortunately, the Bricklin community has suffered another
loss. This one is
a old stallwart that goes back to the beginnings of the club.

I've spent many an evening with John at various meets, sitting around and
swapping stories.

He would call me just to chat every 4 months or so. I always said I'd beat him
to the next call, and call him, but he usually managed to call me first.

His loss will leave a large void in the Bricklin community.

John we will miss you. RIP

To his daughter, Susan, our sympathies and prayers.

John

Subject: [Bricklin] Norton Speed Grip
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: bricklin-bounces@autox.team.net

One of my old high school shop teachers has motivated me to start working on
#246 again and I'm making some progress. I'm at the point where I will need
to order the Norton Speed Grip (if that's what is still being used) and the
gun to attach the body panels and I've noticed they have many different
adhesives. Is the correct one the #04617 urethane adhesive? Will I also need
the "SpeedGrip Adhesion Promoter"?

During the process of fitting the roof and "A" pillar panels, I've been going
back and forth between the old ones and the new to check for fit. I can't
believe how badly the old roof panel was originally fitted. Also, I
discovered there was no definite pattern for attaching the pop rivets to hold
the panels in place while the adhesive was hardening. It was just "kind of
close".

Thanks in advance for the info.

I just recently tried to access the bricklin.org web site on a computer using

That is a pet peeve of mine. For some unknown reason the menus use
Javascript, which is totally unnecessary. I have offered in the past to
re-write the code for HTML and CSS only which would be compatible back to I.E.
6.

In your case did you try another browser, such as Google Chrome or
Firefox?

Javascript is evil. I do not have it, and thus soem poorly designed websites do
not work for me. I just saw something on the news a week or so ago saying it is
best if you do have it to turn it off if you want to protect sensitive inof you
may have on your computer. It was sort of a sidebar to the main story about a
new type of cookies even more evil than noraml cookies as they do not diappear
when you quit your web browser or reboot your computer.

I do not have it but I beleive the newest version of my web browser, Classilla,
does have the option to turn javascript on for sites that you choose or it has
a known safe category of.

Yes; I agree from my readings and checking with my techie friends. Don't
click 'yes' to the request from Java for the update..... I have been
clicking 'no' for many months now based on their advice. The older version
I have seems to allow me to operate without any hiccups, and I have avoided
the newer, more insidious version, at least so far.

Thanks for the tip, Alan.

Despite the similarity in name, Java and Jacascript are vastly different.

Java as run in your browser is awful and should be avoided at all costs. It
has a history of security issues that take a long time to be fixed.

JavaScript is fine. So are cookies.B

Javascript is evil. It makes your computer do things you do not want it to do.
Cookies are also evil but less evil, the thing I saw on Tv was about a new type
of cookie that stays on your computer even if you turn the power off and unloug
it.

Serge,

You can by the intake without the EGR, but in my case a 74 does not have to
pass emissions in my state either. I am not a big fan of EGR. I used an air
gap on my 74 with and edelbrock 1406 carb and had no issues with the hood.
Not sure on the 75 clearence.

Good idea. Power steering fluid is flammable. The high pressure hose on one of
my other cars sprang a leak and, when the fluid hit the exhaust manifold, it
started an engine fire.
