Subject: [Bricklin] Ginger Paint
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: bricklin-bounces@autox.team.net

After spending considerable time trying to track down a code for the Ginger
paint and finding out that due to MD state law concerning VOCs, nobody here
can mix it, I had some luck. A fellow at a paint shop referred me to a
business called Maryland Mustang who has a perfect match in a spray can. The
paint is an "Accumatch Product" and is 70-73 Medium Ginger semi gloss
(lacquer) #L-15939. The paint comes in a 12oz. can and is only $10.

Thought I'd pass that on.

A cover that fits a '68-'82 Vette fits really well. There are many materials
offered... Kind of depends if you want just a dust cover (ie, cotton), or
something more protective, depending on your storage environment, the risk of
children playing near the car, weather issues, etc.

A number of vendors have the pattern to make covers specifically for a
Bricklin.

Going to redo the front suspension. Replace idler arms the bushings etc. I
was told to source 1973 Matador parts for the job. Anyone know if that's the
case for sure?

I normally go with AMC Hornet since it was based off of that platform. Some
of the parts end up being the same.

Subject: [Bricklin] Bricklin 0036 - Automatic
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: bricklin-bounces@autox.team.net

I have given this a lot of thought over the years and I believe it is time to
send my Bricklin to a new owner. I drove it around the block this weekend
then got in my BMW 850i to go meet my wife for lunch. I could have easily
taken the Bricklin. At an intersection not to far from my house while driving
through an intersection I was hit by a car turning across my lane directly to
the left front side of the car. Everyone was OK, but the two cars did not
survive. Mine was totaled. I spent three years of searching for parts and
working to get the car correct and back to like new stock. I had just a
couple of more things to get done and I was hoping to possibly sell it this
summer. I can no longer do that now. I would hate for the same fate to
happen to the Bricklin. I have owned the car almost 10 years. I have put a
lot of work into the car to get it into a reliable driver. I have updated a
few things, but kept the outward appearance stock.

I am still hoping to attend the meet this year and continue my membership in
Bricklin International. I keep my eyes out for Bricklinbs all the time and
I may get another one some day.

$19,500.00 I have a lot more invested in this vehicle, but I believe it is a
fair price.

Gold Award in Dayton, Silver in Frankenmuth, Silver in Louisville. I have
made changes to correct issues found at meets to get this vehicle to the Gold
level. I have driven to all the meets from Tennessee. Engine runs cool for
all the trips.

Interior

Sound heat shield, carpet, C4 Corvette Seats recovered in synthetic leather,
voltmeter installed, new Pioneer unit HD, Bluetooth, CD, MP3 etc. period
correct cruise control. new steering wheel with Bricklin horn button inserted,
new dash cover. No cracks in dash pad. Working dash warning lights, LED
behind the gauges. Converted R134A A/C blows cold.

Engine

AMC 360 Machined and rebuilt, Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM carb, Edelbrock air gap
manifold, Edelbrock cam, Edelbrock valve springs, comp cams rolling rockers,
Edelbrock timing change, new oil pump, new oil pump hoses, aluminum radiator,
cold air intake, custom exhaust with a flowmaster muffler (like stock). Looks
stock from the back.

Exterior

Fiberglass driver and passenger door, key less entry for doors up and down,
key less hatch, electric motors to pop up headlights, light bar on rear for
brake and turn signal, period correct fog/driving lights, shiny stock rims
with BF Goodrich rubber. Always garaged except when at meets. Lizard Skin
heat shield on the firewall and under the seats.

Transmission

GM 700-R4 (4-speed automatic)allows engine to run at 1900 RPM's at 70 MPH

brakes
Wilwood AMC kit on the front, drill slotted rotors, 4 piston calipers. new
shoes and internals on the rear.

Here is a link to photos of things that I have done to the car. I have a few
other cars here as well as other Bricklinbs
.

Subject: [Bricklin] Window action
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: bricklin-bounces@autox.team.net

Thanks for all the help on both the correct car cover and front suspension
parts everyone.
Ibm also having an issue with both passenger and driver side window
operation. Itbs been an problem since I bought it in 79 but itbs next on
my to fix list.

Passenger side takes a lot of effort to move up and down and the window
doesnbt go all the way down. To make it seal in the up position I have to
press out on the glass while turning the handle. Took the door off last
weekend and tried to see what the issue was but really couldnbt tell mainly
because the entire mechanism is buried behind the door sheet metal with the
exception of the small access cutouts. Someone, probably the dealer, already
did some work as the original mounting holes had been modified in a couple of
spots. The drivers side window wonbt roll all the way up. I decided not to
tackle that one until I threw out this call for help.
Does anyone have any experience on window operation and could offer offer a
suggestion or two? Ibm assuming the window mechanisms were sourced from a
donor vehicle?

Thanks

There are 2 problems here: 1 the effort and 2 the going all the way
down. Do you
have the back issues of the magazine? I did an article back in the
July 2005 issue
of the magazine covering many of the window problems.

1. As far as the effort there are a lot of things that contribute to
that. Here is a
quick over view of the possible causes of the large effort.

      a. The window insulation (fuzzy stuff in the window channel) is
now about 40 years old. If the fuzzy are gone then the window can
rub against the rubberish
backing and really increase the friction to operate the window.

      b. A bent regulator. Need to fix the regulator.

      c. If a 75 then the forward guide rail is not parallel to the
real frame guide,
causing the window to bind.

      d. The window is not properly aligned to it's guide rail.

2. As to the window not going all the way down, that's normal. If by
doesn't go all
the way down, you mean the there is about an inch or so of glass
sticking out of
the door. Unfortunately, that is as designed.

There isn't enough room inside the door to receive the entire glass
window. That
being said, there is a rubber bumper in the bottom of the door. Some
people have
removed them to let the window go all the way down. Not a good idea. If the
window is resting on the metal of the door, all the vibration is
transfered to the
window. This can cause the bonding of the window to the channel to
fail and the
window to come unattached, and lead to a broken window. Currently the windows
are getting very hard to come by (spelled expensive).

This sounds like the window may not be going all the way up in the
channel. You'll
need to adjust the various parts of the window mechanism.

Again as designed. There is enough access room to do some work on the window
but to easily work on the windows channel and alignment you should
really remove
the door skin. This is not something you want to consider
lightly. However, if the
door skin is delaminating from the door frame, it may be time to look
into that.
You may want to replace the door skin with a new fiberglass skin.

Again, that sounds like it could be a binding issue do to any or all
of the issues
defined in 1 above.

Unfortunately, yes, I believe it was an International Harvester or
something like that. Unfortunately, they are not strong enough for
this application.

If you don't have the back issues, you may want to think about getting them.
But in the mean time, if you don't have the July 2005 issue let me
know and I'll
email you the article I was refering to earlier in this reply.
