Hi Friends,

Its been forever since I made progress on my TD reassembly. That's unfortunate. But its also not degraded. Sitting inside, its just been on hold.

I have made arrangements for new and larger storage. Starting in March my completed collector cars will have a new home, leaving room at my house garage/workshop to recommence work on the TD. Right now its tightly sandwiched in only 6" from my Lotus Esprit S2 and barely more than that to my daily driver on the other side. Yes tight; Four cars in a 3-car garage. Once the Lotus is in its new home, I can return to the MG with space to work..

While in the garage a few days ago, I B noticed a little paint degredation on the frame, just under the left end of the fuel tank. The tank metal is sound but I suspect a little fuel weeping at the seam. I plan to apply a liquid bladder inside the tank but I'll also seal that seam on the outside with J-B Weld, just to stiffen it.

I had cleaned the tank earlier but since the metal was strong and not pin-holed, I didn't apply the bladder. I will now. Its the product sold by Moss. Worst case scenario is a new tank and new paint on that tank. Given the cost involved with that option, trying the bladdar first seems logical.

Happy Sunday,

-rick

Oops. Personally I have never, ever in my 40+ years of LBC wrenching installed something incorrectly.

Hi Friends,

Quick question or two, please, regarding bonnet release handles;

With the octagon and 'MG' reading correctly, the bonnet latch handles, from side to side, cannot extend in the same direction, when latched - or perhaps the handles should be 'handed' - but mine are all the same. So the question at hand is:

Assuming that the handles are horizontal when latched, should the 'MG' read upside down on on the right side, with the handle extending rearward, or should it read correctly but extending forward? And am I correct in assuming that both sides release with a counter-clockwise turn? Sadly I removed the original handles ages ago, and of course, didn't adequately document the configuration.

Thanks.

Hi again,

Back working on (assembling) the TD, I have carefully aligned the cowl-to-radiator top distance for a clean, proper fit of the bonnet - at the top. With the bonnet aligning properly at the lower edges of the cowl, the base of the radiator has to move forward. This is certainly achievable but with bolts tightened (prematurely) and coolant hoses in place, its a non-trivial job. However, its the only way to properly align the bonnet. Doing so is my afternoon task. Yea me.

Handles indeed should be "handed" -- two lefts, and two rights, so the
"MG" is right-side-up on both sides when the handles are locked--which is
pointing backwards. Both sides rotate up and toward the front (so clockwise
on the right, c-cl. on the left) to release the latches.

With the octagon and 'MG' reading correctly, the bonnet latch handles, from
side to side, cannot extend in the same direction, when latched - or perhaps
the handles should be 'handed' - but mine are all the same. So the question
at hand is:
-Handles are "Handled " , 2 left, 2 right, all read MG properly orientated
when closed and horizontal.

Assuming that the handles are horizontal when latched, should the 'MG' read
upside down on on the right side,
-NO

 with the handle extending rearward,
-YES, all handles extend rearward when latched.

or should it read correctly but extending forward?
-NEVER.

And am I correct in assuming that both sides release with a
counter-clockwise turn?
-No again, both sides release when handles are rotated up and forward.

Handles and Latch mechanisms are handed, so two right side, two left side,
left and rights are mirror images.

Sadly I removed the original handles ages ago, and of course, didn't
adequately document the configuration.
-Yep, we all did that at one time, latches are not easy to figure out if off
the car. As I recall, the spring clip goes to the front of the car and there
is a difference in length of slot guiding the latch. So lay out the latches,
yiou should find two left, two right.

Thanks everyone, for the bonnet latch advice. My latches are now correctly installed, but two of the handles are wrong. All four are the same. So either I ordered wrong, or Moss shipped wrong, a year ago. For now, the insignia on two latches are wrong, to be replaced later.

unless the whole thing is crushed. What is wrong with this one?
Thanks.

I'd forgotten all about a TC R/H fibreglass front wing - or fender if you like
- which I've had since I was nineteen and knew everything! Just mentioning to
see if there's any interest on here before I put it on eBay. Please contact
off-list. Ta everso!
