Hi. I just agreed to purchase an older restoration 1948 TC. I'm on the
fence as to whether I should fly from Austin to St Louis MO to check it
out. The seller sent me many high resolution photos as well as a video of
the car running and driving. It's from a respected dealership (consignment
car) called MotoExotica. The TC was one of their cheaper vehicle.

Is there anyone on the list in the area that would be willing to check it
out for me in lieu of my flying out there?

Not inspecting it in person is definitely not something I normally do. In
fact, the idea is giving me anxiety. But I thought I'd throw the idea out
there to see if anyone is nearby.

This would be my 2nd MG, the first being a '78 Midget I restored years ago,
and sold a few years back. A TC will be an entirely new experience for me,
although not one that is particularly frightening. My experience with MG
owners in the past has been nothing if not amazing. I'm glad to be joining
the team.

Thanks,

Mike

after giving it much thought... and thanks to Lew for his suggestion, I
think I'm going to fly out there with my daughter on Thursday and meet with
Adam Key or someone with his team at the dealership for them to help with
the inspection. Then if all goes well, spend a few days tooling around in
St Lewis with it before heading back to TX.

The video was current, btw. from Dec '14 when the car was put up for sale.

Hey everyone,

The new TC has one side curtain with a crack/hole in the window.

I'd like to negotiate the price down to pay for it since it's a new
disclosure. Can anyone give me an idea as to how much repairing this will
cost?

Hi Mike, It's a DIY job that takes about an hour. It's quicker to DIY t=

to supply the plastic. To replace, simply undo the nuts on inside of th=

he broken plastic. Use a hand-grip paper hole punch to make the new hole=

Good morning.

Anyone have strong thoughts on a knock off hammer? I see there are lead
ones, copper/rawhide ones, teflon ones, and a laminated wood wrench.

Pricing from $22 to $150.

Thanks,

Mike

Lead ones are good, but eventually you will have to have it recast.
Copper or copper/rawhide are good, but copper could create damage to knock-off, and rawhide can wear.
I really like the lever, that fits over the ears of the knock-off, and provide leverage for tightening and loosening.
Still can mar chrome finish. Use newspaper over chrome for protection.
They are made by Clark & Clark Specialty Products, in Holland, MI.
Moss Motors sells them as well.

I use a cheap plastic dead blow hammer. As added protection I hold

So, any recommendations for tools I should purchase before I need them? I
have a good collection of tools I use on my other vehicles and around the
house. But I know there are special items needed for TCs like withworth
wrenches and sockets.

Thanks,

A set of Whitworth 3/8" drive sockets and a set of combination wrenche=
s will get you started. Moss has some, also British Tools & Fasteners. =
Few, if any, fasteners on T-series cars are high-strength items, so you =
do not need Snap-On quality. You probably have some screwdrivers that=
fit the TC's screw slots well (and some that do not). Set the ones that=
fit onto your bench with the Whitworth wrenches and you will be all set=

One in a while the new TC throttle sticks on the choke cable. After
looking at some diagrams, it looks like the throttle connection might be
DPO'd with the wrong fittings and missing the spring.

Can anyone send photos of what the fittings should look like on a '48?

My photos are here:
