Did it crack along the surface that contacts the seal?
If so, yes, replace the seal.
Crack will act as a fly cutter.

If not, you should be OK.

Hi Gerry,I would not go to the trouble of replacing the front crankshaft oil seal(s) unless you were losing an excessive amount of oil from your existing front crank shaft seal, or you know your seal was damaged by wear from a crack that extended to the center of the pulley you are replacing. If you do decide to replace the original style upper and lower front seals, do consider installing a better modern From the Frame Up style GA 125 Oil Seal, or a MOSS 120-750 seal.JonSLC, UT TC,TD,TF

Good day all,
My crank pulley cracked on my TC. I purchased a replacement but now wonder=
is I have to replace the seal which would include removing the timing cove=
r and possibly the pan. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Gerry

Hi Gang,

The Moss-supplied rubber inserts for my TD's running board treads are not
cut to fit. Rather, they are just strips of rubber. That means they don't
fit the tapered ends of the metal strips. I have found that cutting the
ends to fit results in pretty ugly results.

What have you done to install these treads handsomely?

-rick

Simple - Cut the ends to a neat taper to fit into the aluminum, then carefully round off the dome to a sloping contour on a belt sander.

Hello,

Have you tried the ones from Abingdon Spares?

I had to replace a single strip and was pleasantly surprised that they did
not have this problem.

Insufficient information, Gerry. Does the gear selector move into all four forward gears and reverse when the engine is off? Or does the shifter not move? If the former, does it not go into gear because there's a terrible grinding when the engine is running and the clutch pedal depressed. Did you adjust the clutch pedal travel and free play according to the manual? On a TC, both these measurements are critically important. When you push the clutch pedal does it feel as though it is doing what it used to - i.e. compressing the springs of the clutch pressure plate? If it simply doesn't move properly, perhaps you put the disc in backwards.

Hi Friends,

Thanks to the List member who recommended shaping the Moss-supplied
running board treads using a sander. I ended up using my grinder (side
of the wheel) but the effect was the same. The results are not
perfect, but they're not bad either. Three more to go.

Has anyone used the adjustable clutch link that Moss sells?

If so, can you please PM me?

I'm trying to figure out which way to do the adjustment.

Hi friends,

Moss lists tops for the TD for '2 free-standing metal top bows' or '3
free-standing metal top bows'. My top sticks are not here with me so I
can't check.

Do you know which configuration was used on a LHD 1953 TD shipped to
the USA? Its top buying time.

It certainly should have had a 3-bow top frame, Rick. However, unless you a=
re certain your car still has the top that it originally came with, I would=
check your frame first. I've run across a lot of TDs which have had their =
tops changed to earlier or later frames!

Hi Friends,

Thanks for all the advice given, regarding weather gear for my TD.
Hopefullly I have completed all the purchases for this project, except for
dye, and the restoration can be completed. The wallet is brused but to
date, unbroken.

A day or three ago, I ordered a new tan Stafast top for my car. I will
repair the side curtains with new plastic windows, also ordered, and
refinish the side curtain canvas with Leatherique dye. It will be ordered
once I have a color swatch from the new top. I'll use that same dye, which
is actually just strong UV resistant paint, to refinish the sticks and side
curtain frames. Color should be close enough. If not, I have tan paint that
matches the leather. I'll also use the 'dye' to paint the new white vinyl
tonneau a matching tan.

I can't yet see light at the end of the tunnel, but the tracks are now
clear. Thanks go to those of you who have advised and helped. E-Mail car
lists are genius!

Hello friends,

When a car cover gets dirty, how does one wash it? I've consideted taking
my covers to a laundromat but don't know if that is appropriate. Also, what
kind of soap might one use? Dawn? My assorted covers are not waterproof nor
are they intended for outdoor storage.

Thanks forvyour advice,

Rick

I've taken my California Car Cover to the laundromat and washed and
dried it in a large capacity washer and dryer. I used whatever soap my
wife uses for our laundry and went by the directions on the machines. It
took a while but it turned out clean and free of dust.
