I have had a plastic fan blade break and puncture the radiator. I think =
this was rather a fringe case, however. Autopsy revealed the fan had a =
molding flaw =E2=80=94 there was large bubble in the plastic right at =
the base of the blade that broke off =E2=80=94 it only lasted 307 miles =
from new. Also, it is doubtful that the blade would have seriously =
damaged the radiator if it hadn=E2=80=99t become trapped in the radiator =
shroud. As it was, it acted as a kind of rotary hammer, which was too =
much for the 50+ year-old brass core.

Anyway, as for Rick=E2=80=99s problem, if it doesn=E2=80=99t involve a =
head gasket leak (as suggested), then I think that leaves serious =
blockage in the block somewhere. Possibly this could be located with a =
thermo gun. I have had to remove freeze plugs and break up deposits with =
a pick in an old iron block V8 before.

----- Original Message -----That's an interesting piece of information!
So now I have to find an MG dealer, who can deliver me a plastic fan.
My 1971 imported in 1990 to the Netherlands from California still has the
metal blades...
I once read a story of a broke metal fan blade protruding through the bonnet
(hood).

Cheers,
Hans

Pretty sure alll MGA had cloth braid covered harness. Early cars had
black rubber insulated wires with color coded cloth braid on each
wire. Later production cars had PVC insulated wires with the color
code molded into the plastic insulation. All of them were them had
the outer cover woven on outside with the yellow stripes wovwn into
the cloth. Never was any kind of tape wrap with stripes as original
(not cloth or plastic).
