I just did a search for myself on the internet and came across I piece I wrote
years ago. I don't know how deeply any of you have read that I have on
the Bricklin site or my Morgan site. But there are 2 items that tear my heart
out.

Check them out, the 2nd one is the one I wrote, the other is from a very
wise lady in CA.

Has anyone bought and installed the pre-made interiors supplied by Morgan
for the classic 2-seaters? I need to do a complete interior and am trying
to weigh the difference between having a local custom shop do this versus
the factory product. Not doing anything special, trying to keep it looking
original.

Subject: [Morgans] Rear brakes stuck
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: morgans-bounces@autox.team.net

Well, I went over to my dad last week to try and move my Morgan, no luck.
The rear drum brakes are frozen. So now come the question how to get
them unstuck with miminual damage?

I have wire wheels, so I can't put a bar across a couple of the studs and try
standing on the bar.

I did a google search for this, and that was what a lot of people did, and the
other thing was to beat on the drum with a hammer. I may try that and
hopefully not damage the drums.

I had a couple of friends over and the 3 of us tried to pull the car backwards
and the wheels just slid on the garage concrete floor.

I'm up for any suggestions.

John

Had the same problem with friends BN1 Healey. I used a 4lb soft-blow hammer around the drum and got to where we could GENTLY pry it off with a couple of flat bars, or long tommy bars.

Please be careful, a steel hammer or prying vigorously could break the drum.

Bill,

Thanks. Yes I'll be careful. My problem is NOT getting the drums
off, it's getting
the wheels to turn so I can drive it or get it on a tow truck and
have it moved to
my place. :)

Hi John- 1) Handbrake stuck on? Maybe access the "T" pivot back by the rear axle and see if you can rotate it to release the handbrake 2) Maybe open the bleeder screws on the rear drums so the wheel cylinder pistons can retract more easily?

I had the same problem on my first Morgan. It was in storage for 3
years while I was overseas in the service. It was left with the parking
brake on! When I tried to get it out of storage, the shoes were rusted
to the drums. If yours is anything like mine was, about the best you
will be able to do is drag the car on to a flatbed tow to get it to a
repair facility. Since then, I never leave a car with the parking
brake on for an extended period.

William,

No not yet. I haven't been back over to work on the car since I discovered the
problem. The kids came home for Thanksgiving, so spent the time with
the family. We'll see how the weather is this next week or so.
