Subject: Re: [Oletrucks] Bed questions
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: oletrucks-bounces@autox.team.net

I have questions about my 1957 short stepside pickup bed. I have seen photos
of some trucks that do not have the 6 off set bolt washesr which hold the bed
to the frame. I am wondering if anybody on the list has done this and how
they achieved it. Is it possible to bolt the cross members to the frame so
that when the wood then lies over it and then once the wood is bolted down it
is all held in place?

Thanks,

Jim

I'm just wondering why you'd want to do that. I bought a '54 and the PO used 2" square tubing instead of the hat section crossmembers. The wood was tongue and groove with no metal strips.

I prefer the original look and not just for the look. I use my trucks and the original setup holds up for years.

james; i did that on my bed. i bolted the bed x-members to the frame and
routed out clearance for the bolt heads in the back of my bed wood. the
rear bed sill still bolts to the frame and the 60 1/4'' bolts still hold
the bed secure to the frame. my bed wood is trex plastic wood for decks.
since they only manufacture one width i have one extra board and bed strip.

That's a great idea about using Trex! Hadn't considered it before, but as I
still have to build-up an entire new box and fenders for my '49 1/2 ton, I
should consider that idea. Sure beats having the wood rot over time in New
England!

That's how I did my long bed 57 Jim. And it held up through a rollover.

Subject: Re: [Oletrucks] Bed questions

I have questions about my 1957 short stepside pickup bed. I have seen
photos of some trucks that do not have the 6 off set bolt washesr which hold
the bed to the frame. I am wondering if anybody on the list has done this
and how they achieved it. Is it possible to bolt the cross members to the
frame so that when the wood then lies over it and then once the wood is
bolted down it is all held in place?

Thanks,

Jim

This came through the Spridgets list, for obvious reasons, but
there may be some interesting trucks on hand as well.

Errors-To: oletrucks-bounces@autox.team.net

I sold my one/only TF truck yesterday ( sad face)

New owner didnt want some of my extras so heres a partial list.

l

Set of two front doors-best loaded rust-free doors you have ever seen.
zero dents and super cherry. They came off 2ton(fits halfton)
Asking $250/each

loaded Right front door with dent and peeling paint but no rust
$150

I have a brand new, never installed parking brake shoe for transmission
mounted parking brake like on 1 ton and bigger.
this is for one that wraps around the outside
I paid $75 to get it relined and hope to just sell it straight for that.

I have a BRAND NEW in the box power brake and booster setup from CPP
http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1947_59_Trucks/4754BBD.htm
Paid $300 plus tax. sell for $300

Considering selling my remote mount Gear Vendors unit that was intended for
the camper but never installed. They go on ebay all the time for $1,500-1,900.
I know I paid at least that but due to my memory... and list members-how about
$1,400 OBO.

I have an OEM untested factory radio(chevy only) and the rare above windshield
speaker box. asking $200 for the pair OBO.

I also have a windshield that may have one small defect-$50 local pickup
only.

Um, I am sure I have other items for TF trucks so just PM me with your
requests.

Subject: [Oletrucks] Torque Tube
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: oletrucks-bounces@autox.team.net

Hey guys, just brought my '50 3100 home from storage and getting ready
to start some work on it, little at a time.
One thing that has always been a issue since day one 25 years ago is the
front tube connection to the tranny.
There's a bell like connection that has a base seal to the tranny that
allows for the u-joints, that slips up over the torque tube
This has leaked as I said from day one. I don't have anything that
explains how to seal the connection where the slip joint over the tube is.
It's like a pipe fitting (if memory serves) that has a screw
fitting that tightens to the tube.

Probably not explaining this very well, but Bottom line is, does anyone
have any 'rebuild' information on the front (and rear for that matter)
connections
of the torque tube to the tranny and the rear end?
I'd appreciate what ever anyone knows.

Thanks

Ric

Question for all...

I have an early 80's 350 I will be putting in my 57. It had a 235 in it and I
have the original transmission, bell housing, ect. Will the 350 bolt up to
this bell housing? Is there anything that I need to alter with the ring gear
or starter setup?

Thanks in advance for your help

Paul--You will need a V8 bellhousing and flywheel and clutch, and
starter. The 55-59 truck V8 and 64-72 truck six and V8 bellhousings will
work. (the later six engines use the same bellhousing at the V8).

I am trying to assemble a GMC 228 that I dismantled about 15 years ago. I would like to get pictures of how the oil lines and gas lines are connected and where connected. If anybody has a 228, I would appreciate it if you could shoot some pictures.

One thing I have done to counteract the recent flurry of hijacked email
addresses
sending bad stuff through the the list is change the list settings for
number of
allowed recipients. Most of them include at least half a dozen or so
addresses,
maybe more, in each message as they go through the victim's address list.

I've lowered the limit to 3. While this will stop a fair amount of the
bad stuff
from getting sent to the lists, it will also delay some legitimate
messages.
If folks send off nested replies with many recipients their mail will be
held,
waiting for me to approve it and send it on. I'll work on being more
diligent
about going through the pending admin requests [ 7,438 at the moment ]
to separate the wheat from the chaff.

And an advance notice - the annual fund drive will be coming up in a
month or so,
I will try and get all the forum and FTP issues resolved before asking
for contributions.
Never ending chores - I think I'll ask the man in charge for a raise!

mjb.
