I'm not that far along with my '54. I tried misfit rubber that came with the
truck and couldn't make it work. When I'm ready I'll but Steele in the hope
that more expensive equates to better fit.

I fabricated a rotisserie to handle the cab and by the end of tomorrow I
should have the two mated up. Today I got the doors off, glass out, tank out,
and seat out.

Looks like the springs have to be popped off the upper door hinges to get them
out?

I'm painting my '54 all apart. I even cut the welds at the bed side to
tailgate crossmember. I'll re-weld those two spots just before I spray color
on it. I did this before on a '55-1st back in 1970 and it came out great. It's
difficult to get a decent paint job where the bed overlaps the fender.

Gentlemen,

I am soliciting inputs / opinions on the proper tires to put on my truck.

I do not know whether black walls or white walls are appropriate or was it
just a personal preference.

Any recommendations including tire size, wheels, hubcaps and of course a
reliable source for a set would be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat on my '54. It's currently stripped to a bare frame so
there's no urgency. The color will be light blue and I'm leaning toward chrome
6" wide wheels and black 7.75x15 radial tires. Previous owner put wide mag
wheels on it and that was not a good choice. The rear tires rub the fenders
under load and steering is much harder than with thinner tires.

I have a quart of a darker shade of blue for inside the cab and I've thought
about painting the wheels that color.

The cab is on a rotisserie I fabricated. I turned the cab on its side and that
was my first time to remove the speedometer standing up.

Subject: Re: [Oletrucks] Rims for '49 Chevy Pickup

Errors-To: oletrucks-bounces@autox.team.net

Hello:

I am interested in finding 15 inch rims for my '49 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. It
currently has 6-lug, 16- inch wheels, and I like the look of the smaller
wheels and tires. Someone has offered rims he says came off of a '41 Chevy
passenger car. They have the 6-lug Chevy pattern, but my question is whether
the center hole of the wheel will fit my truck. I've measured my current
rims, and the diameter of the opening is 3 1/2 inches. Are they
interchangeable? Thanks for your help. David

I don't know if they will bolt up, but I suggest that you measure across as
well. They may be too narrow to fit a decent tire. They also may not be able
to hold air with tubeless tires although if they are solid rims, that
shouldn't be a problem.

Hello:

I am interested in finding 15 inch rims for my '49 Chevy 1/2 ton
pickup. It currently has 6-lug, 16- inch wheels, and I like the look of the
smaller wheels and tires. Someone has offered rims he says came off of a
'41 Chevy passenger car. They have the 6-lug Chevy pattern, but my question
is whether the center hole of the wheel will fit my truck. I've measured my
current rims, and the diameter of the opening is 3 1/2 inches. Are they
interchangeable? Thanks for your help. David

I've got a set of four six lug wheels coming off of my 55 1st series truck.
The front wheels are clear, and the rearend project is next (as in August).
I'm 99 percent positive the wheels are 15 inch and that they are not
original. Ask me questions and I'll have a sighted friend find the answers
or send photos. I'm in Reno. Harry
