Subject: [CTR] 1976 Spitfire Project car.... must go.. deal of the century

Hello everyone.

Unfortunately, I have no time to work on this and it must go. I will
entertain any offers (any) including trade for ?????

Pictures available if there is any interest.

1976 Triumph Spitfire.

80- 85% complete.

Body was removed from frame during re-build.

Engine starts, needs fine tuning. Good oil pressure. Good compression

Car will drive in forward and reverse, but I have not had it on the road yet
for a true test drive

*	Overdrive transmission rebuilt. (Dave Pettigrew)
*	Rear end rebuilt. (Dave Pettigrew)
*	New wiring harness from Rimmer Bros
*	New windshield (on car)
*	New plastic Dash overlay (on car)
*	New walnut 3 piece dash (in place)
*	New dual exhaust (installed)
*	All new bushings, ball joints & front end stuff. (installed)
*	New shocks front and rear (installed)
*	4 new tires on car.
*	Seats are not in the best shape. Seat frames and rails are good (not
on car)
*	Original carpet is OK.
*	Car has a roll bar W/Padding. (installed)
*	Header (came on engine)

Lot's of small extras, air filters, some relay's, OD Switch and shifter Cap.
OD wiring harness, speedo cable

Luggage rack (used, but decent) other stuff, too much to detail

Other extras, not on vehicle yet. Will elaborate if there is an interest.

Car can be seen in West Haven, CT.

Day time: 203-985-3411 (7A-4P)

Evenings after 6 and weekends 203-932-5030

Thanks

Bob

Hello,

Has anybody ever successfully re-installed the stainless steel windshield
trim over a new rubber seal? I have the workshop manual, which shows a
special tool that should be used, but its description of the actual process
is extremely vague.

Thanks,
Doug

Yes, I have (quit a few years ago) and I have the original stainless, not
the plastic trim, but even with the tool which I made as per the dimensions
in the workshop manual, it's still extremely difficult to install!
My hats of to the line workers who had to install them -

So this isn't related to Spitfires, but close enough.

You may have seen my post on Facebook about the Midget with the loose carbs.
Fixed that, still having trouble.

So Ricky is Mike's full time mechanic, I just get called in once in a
while for odds
and ends. Ricky went to tech school, learned a lot, great worker,
smart kid. I've
been working on LBCs longer than he's been alive. We had a minor
disagreement
today.

So this rough running Midget with the 1275, dual SUs. Put your palm
over mouth
of the front carb, the idle speeds up and smooths out. Put your palm
over the rear
carb, engine stumbles and dies.

I won't offer who said what about that indication, what do YOU think?

mjb.

I have never claimed to be good with carbs, but here are my thoughts.

It sounds like the back carb is way too rich and the front carb is way
to lean. I would think the back carb is providing almost all of the gas
for the car to run on.

As to the cause, I suppose it could be several things -jet adjustment -
float level - stuck piston as Jeff suggested - idle screws set incorrectly.

But somehow the car is running rich just off the back carb.

Roger

That's what I was thinking.

Did you replace them, or just clean them?

For now just cleaned them. The carbs have noticeable wear on the
throttle shafts,
waiting for the owner to decide if he wants to live with it or go for
full rebuilds.

just thought I would mention that I purchased a master brake cylinder from
these people back at the end of march.

I contacted them through the ebay messenger/mail service, and told them that
I had just installed it last night and it leaked.

they replied that I should check the fittings on the reservoir and the seals
to see if that solved the problem. if not, it was under warranty and they
gave me their return address in Knoxville, TN.

I'm pretty impressed and thought I should pass this along.
