My car has braided stainless brake lines all around, has since I bought it
18 years ago. No problems yet! Plus is a firm pedal and they seem to last a
very long time compared to the rubber ones. Though at 18+, I probably should
think about replacing them just because. My car has a solid line from the
clutch master to the slave, as has every Spitfire I have played with - yours
doesn't? Just regular brake line with a couple of loops in it to take up the
movement when the engine is rocking around.

Errors-To: spitfires-bounces@autox.team.net

My clutch has felt a little funny this season, inconsistent and even a bit
grabby. Went poking around under the hood and it looks like that @#$@@##@
pin that retains the release fork has left the premises. I KNEW I should
have replaced the $@#$@#$# thing with a bolt when I last had the
transmission out of the car - I had to tap it back into place once many
years ago. Any bets on whether I can get it into position to get a bolt
through there with the engine and trans in the car. ? Looks like the fork
has moved such that I can just see the edge of it in the hole, I am hoping I
can get it moved into place with a thin screwdriver and/or a pick or
something.

I can't complain too loudly, this is the first thing that has fallen off the
little guy in YEARS! I really should just make the effort to take the box
out and figure out why it is marking its territory like the Exxon Valdez.
Then again, it's summer in Maine - I want to drive!

Subject: [Spits] Thinning the surplus
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: spitfires-bounces@autox.team.net

With my storage going away in the next few months, I'm looking to unload
some (most?) of the spares I've collected over the last 14 years. I'm
currently compiling the list, and will let you know when it's ready. In the
meantime, I have 3 things that will go to the scrap yard if no one is
interested. The first 2 are from a crashed '71 GT6 I parted a few years
ago. The left side of the bonnet was flattened when the PO ran into a
concrete barrier. The rest was fine. So I grabbed my recip saw, and cut
the entire right section off. Fender, wheel well, headlight, and trim are
in one piece. Very little rust, and not bent that I can see. From that
same car I salvaged the bump with the idea of being able to graft it into a
Spit bonnet if I ever needed to.

I also have the bonnet off a '74 Spit. Both fenders are trash, as are the
headlight brackets underneath. But the center section is in decent shape.
No dings on the nose. If you needed to I think you could replace the rusted
bits and have a good bonnet. Pictures available if anyone is interested.

All of these are free for pickup or for the shipping. Yes, I know that
could be a chunk of change. Everything is located just north of Mankato MN.
Let me know if you're interested.

Bill

I'm looking to perform an conversion from incandescent to led lamps for my
instrument and dash of my Spit-Six Project car. I researched the Triumph
archives and found a reference to http://www.ledtronics.com/.

Which exactly are the bulb numbers for the screw based bulb (.36" dia. base,
.44" bulb dia. & .93" length) marked as 12V 2.2 watts.

Same for a bayonet-based blub (.36" dia. base, .44" bulb dia. & .93"
length), also 12V and 2.2 watts

Same for a bayonet-based blub (.27" dia. base, .257" bulb dia. & .77"
length), also 12V and 2.2 watts

Which LED's would be the best replacement? Any help would be appreciated.

Their website is off line. Did they get hacked and take it down?

Subject: [Spits] Roadster Factory Party Hotels
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Errors-To: spitfires-bounces@autox.team.net

The wife and I are considering a road trip in the Spitfire, across this
great land, to the Roadster Factory Summer Party this year in August. Not
getting any younger, and at my age (and to have my wife be a willing
partner), camping after four days driving a Spitfire cross country, on the
grounds, will NOT be an option!
So, if you have attended, or are going, what hotels are recommended, or are
other listers staying at nearest the event?

Looking good! Nearly a twin to Freddie! Same color, different wheels.

PO painted Freddie himself, and it is still holding up well 18+ years later.
Though entropy is certainly taking its toll.

Some PO painted my car before I bought it circa 1990. That paint job was a
quickie and looked marginal even back then.

Re-painting a card is hard to do well, but re-re-painting is even harder.
You have to get rid of all the second coat, and then you have to deal with
whatever motivated them to repaint it in the first place. I ended up
replacing the rear lower valence panel (under the rear bumper). Due to old
accident damage, this was a masterpiece of bondo. Fortunately I did not
find any unexpected rust.

I removed the windshield, all the lights and trim, door handles, gas filler
neck, headlight buckets, etc. That made for a lot of extra work, but the
result is much nicer.

Finally! Many years after the switch from majordomo to mailman, the
web page

http://www.team.net/tn-mail.html

finally has current, useable information. Imagine that!

It is just a start, though, there is SO much more to update on the
site. But with record
breaking heat here in Salt Lake City I'd rather be in my cool basement
dungeon than out
in the very warm garage, perhaps updating Team.Net will be happening at
more than a
glacial pace.
