I got the correct tap and die in. Those are 9/32 BSF (26 tpi) from http://www.britishfasteners.com/index.php In my haste I quickly chased the threads in the rocker arm then the threads on the spare adjuster. While tapping the rocker arm I made sure that there was cloth underneath to catch any metal filings. Couldn't have the cloth in the way while I tried to screw in the adjuster so moved it. Still a little tough so I move the pushrod out of the hole. One slip of the fingers and down the hole it went. I can not get the adjuster out of the hole the follower is in. I tried superglue and I tried a small magnet. Now I have a small magnet and a lifter adjuster in there. So now I guess it's off to the shop and I'll just swap out the other engine.. if only it were that easy.. there is the flywheel and pilot bushing for the 5 speed. maybe I can use the flywheel and clutch off the original 948 if they fit an early 1098 crank. Otherwise it's weeks in the shop waiting on just the right parts and then the machining that follows. Or take the engine out, invert remove cam etc. Not a job for an afternoon. FRACK. I've got everything but the head pulled and at this point glad that I did. I mean why not.. arrgghh.. Pulled gears off, which meant pulling the front cover off, which meant pulling the front pulley off, which meant removing fan and pulley, loosening the generator to get belt off, jacking the engine up enough to clear the front bolt, which meant taking motor mounts off and the intake and exhaust manifolds off (Exhaust hit underneath car limiting movement), bending heater core shelf to get enough height to remove pulley, which meant undoing steering rack to allow enough space for 3/4" driver underneath. Hell, all that I have left is the head. Once it's off I can take the damn thing piece by piece to my shop and let it keep the slab from lifting! But that is a good idea.. Engine and tranny is now out of Bugsy II. The 948 spins over and was a running 948 when removed from car 30+ years ago. All coolant drained from block prior to storage. I installed in car for transport from Toronto but otherwise in great shape. Needs paint and I'm sure carbs should be rebuilt but he could swap all stuff from current car. Swap number plates on engine and well ... Receipts I have say Tranny was rebuilt in 1985. Minimal miles as car was off the road for restoration for 30+ years. They are taking up space under my workbench in the garage. Price will be right and probably far easier than getting the crank reground. Greg is a young man who I run into at the Fresh and Easy market. He tells me that he made $28,500 last year selling event tickets on eBay. He does music events, no sports. People do very well with sporting event tickets . . but most people focus on a market that they continue to be more and more familiar with. Why does Greg work for minimum wage at the market and then make so much more for his time selling event tickets? Hard to understand. . . . . there does seem to be a disconnect here. Greg does not come off as the type of guy who cares about impressing people . . very reserved kind of guy. After talking to him as much as I have I lean towards Greg telling me truthfully what has been actually happening in his life. One day at Fresh and Easy he was helping me and the subject of eBay came up. I was lamenting the fact that I had a large item to send . . some motorcycle parts I sold before our move. He chimed in about how easy it is to send event tickets O'night. That is how the conversation began. He tells me that he made $400 recently selling Paul McCartney tickets. The key is to buy early and buy good seats that sell out fast. Because Greg has bought tickets before, at times, he gets sent codes that he can use on the ticket site/s to buy before the public. His profit on Celine Dion . . .. he spent $800 and pulled back $2,400. Myself with over 2000 eBay transactions I have seen many times bidding wars which drive prices past expectations. He immediately lists the tickets, most often for a 7 day listing. I have spent time researching this. It appears that there are many who do very well with this . . no doubt those also who lose money. Some people it appears have taken losses only to learn from their mistake and get back in to recover losses and make gains. Thoughts? I can remember waiting overnight for tickets to go on sale for shows when I was in college only to find scalpers had totally unleveled the playing field. They do nothing except ruin the opportunity for motivated people to get tickets to see shows that would add to their their lives, and have turned concerts into something that often only the well-off can afford. They add no value to anything. If he doesn't care about impressing people, he has succeeded, as nothing impresses me less than someone who is just a moneychanger with no added value to society. The lower the level of oil, in relation to the location of the oil pump, the greater the "lift" the pump has to make, to draw the oil into it. This translates to less pressure on the discharge side of the pump. Although I had to learn all about this in my day job, years ago, I never equated it to automotive oil pumps until the late 356 engine guru, Harry Pellow, called it to my attention. It's real and it happens, for sure. Some pumps are more prone to pressure drop due to lower oil levels than others, but, nonetheless it happens. The pressure was rock steady through any kind of driving, so I think the pickup was in the right spot. At the time I knew nothing of cars. I just used the low pressure as an indicator and never had to remove the dipstick. It ran fine until I lent it to a friend that wanted to visit his girlfriend in the Marines in Twenty Nine Palms. He had to drive from Hermosa Beach and I told him to just watch the oil pressure gauge and stop when the pressure got down to forty. I even supplied the oil. I guess he was only thinking of one thing while driving out there. He got as far as Needles, California and the engine seized. He had to buy me a used engine from the junk yard to replace the one he killed. Yes, there were Bugeyes in junkyards back then. Most of you who know me already know I've left New York and moved back home to Middle Tennessee. It's been a long and busy few months, but it seems to be all coming together now. Among those changes is the fact that I am now Spridgetless. Yep. Sold the little white car that I bought from Frank (and that introduced me to this crazy crowd) to a friend on Long Island. Last I saw it, it was sitting in front of his shop there in Bellmore. He bought it for his girlfriend, so I hope it has a wonderful long life there. I did, as Jim pointed out, go over to the dark side though... Bought a 74 1/2 BGT. Couldn't help it. I've always loved those cars, and I stumbled across this one quite by accident. It's quite a good-looking example in my eyes, and the price was such that I really couldn't say no. So anyway - I have no intentions of quitting the group (as long as you'll have me). Will just no longer be asking for Spridget help. If anybody ends up doing an OSHIT in Nashville or thereabouts, please let me know! P.S. - We have a member here in the Nashville area somewhere. The two of us spoke a couple of years back, but never got around to actually getting together. The lists were down for several hours Saturday. Those of you on the shop-talk list probably saw my post about the UPS situation. Basically we had a short power outage, the UPS only gave me about 35 seconds to do anything - not enough time for a clean shutdown. When the server came back up it didn't bring everything back on line as expected. Fun.
