We have inadvertently left Hartwood off our 2019 calendar.
The date is Sunday September 29.
this is one of our favorite events because all we have to do is show up (
the Jaguar club runs it) and our picnic on the club.
So get it on your calendar.

Half Day Run
Sandhill Berry Farm / Greendance Winery
By PJ Wright
Now that the PGVP is over, WPTA members need to be considering the next eve=
nts that will be coming in August.
This is a reminder of the Half Day Run to the Sandhill Berry Farm in Nt. Pl=
easant on Saturday, August 17th.
The meeting place is:
            Sheetz
            231 Curry Hollow Rd.
            Pleasant Hills, Pa. 15236
The gathering time is 9:45 AM with the drivers meeting at 10 AM.
In the June issue of the newsletter, I detailed some of the changes the own=
ers have made to Sandhill BF. One item I was not aware of was that the Penn=
sylvania LCB law for Wineries now allows the sale of Pennsylvania beer! Did=
you get that? Should you desire a beer, brands such as Yingling, Penn Pils=
ner and others will be available by bottle. Just ask at the wine checkout. =
I have already scouted (sampled) it out, BEER is available.
I am also reminding members from the Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant and Ligonier =
area to join us at the Winery around noon to enjoy the friendship of the cl=
ub members. We will be glad to see you.
I will be looking forward to seeing YOU!

Larry Ross

Hello all,
I hope you=E2=80=99re having a great summer. I planned to as well and expec=
ted to be attending British Car Days and other club events but my 1976 Spit=
fire is sidelined again with what seems like ignition problems.=C2=A0
Here=E2=80=99s the situation. I have a 1976 Spitfire with a Crane XR700 ign=
ition system. The carburetor and distributor were lovingly rebuilt this win=
ter by Bruce. Thanks again Bruce. It seemed fine until earlier this summer,=
I took it for a short drive and quickly headed back home. The engine was s=
truggling and stuttering while going up a mild incline in 3rd gear. Followi=
ng the advice of a friend with a TR6, living in South Carolina, I tested di=
sconnected each spark plug wire in sequence to figure out if there was trou=
ble inside the engine. Removing the #4 spark plug wire resulted in no chang=
e in the idle. Of course it stuttered badly upon removing #1 - #3 wires. I =
managed to drive the car to a nearby garage in Carnegie =E2=80=93 European =
Automotive Specialists. They ran a compression test and all four cylinders =
had between 140 =E2=80=93 150 pounds. The mechanic thought he isolated the =
problem with the distributor cap or wire to #4. I purchased a new cap, roto=
r and better set of Cobalt spark plug wires. This did not help. The engine =
still ran roughly and struggled under load.=C2=A0
Next, I purchased a new Lucas Sport coil from Victoria British. The ad on t=
he website said to disconnect the ballast/resistance wire so I cut and capp=
ed the pink and white wire. Now the car won=E2=80=99t start. I get a few po=
ps but nothing to work with and coax it into running. I will probably recon=
nect the pink and white wire, but then again, I don=E2=80=99t think it will=
help. I=E2=80=99ve checked the firing order and it is correct.=C2=A0
So, I=E2=80=99m waving the white flag and asking if anyone has the time and=
patience to help me get my car running again?By the way I live in Crafton.
Much thanks,=C2=A0Kevin.=C2=A0=C2=A0

Hello WPTA,
This is car related, not Triumph related, so I hope that's ok...

I've got a 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser that needs some rust repair on the lowe=
r portion of the body.
1 sizeable spot at the bottom of the passenger side rear fender.
2 smaller spots at the back of both front wheel wells.
I'd like the bad sections cut out, new metal formed and welded in, then pai=
nted.

I'd also like most of the surface rust on the underside of the SUV treated =
/ painted.
Most of this is on the frame, not on the body.

Any suggestions on a body shop that's done good rust repair that's lasted a=
 while?
The SUV will be garaged moving forward, so it won't be exposed to the eleme=
nts all winter long.

Thank you.
Tom

Triumph Motor Co. Ltd.

*Info:* *Triumph Information in a Nutshell*

>From humble beginnings as a bicycle manufacturer, Triumph began building
motorcycles in 1902. In 1921 Triumph acquired the Dawson Car Company and
began building automobiles beginning with the 1.4L Triumph 10/20. In the
1930s they changed their name to the Triumph Car Company, and spun off the
motorcycle division into its own company in 1936. Donald Healey was the
Experimental Manager from 1934 until 1939, when T.W. Ward purchased the
company and placed Healey in charge as general manager. The company
produced several models including the Gloria and the Dolomite during this
time.

After WWII, the company merged with the Standard Motor Company to form
Standard-Triumph and once again started automobile construction, building
one of the most modern car assembly plants in the world in 1959 at Canley
for the new Triumph Herald. The Standard-Triumph company was eventually
bought in 1960 by Leyland Motors Ltd for the sum of =C2=A320 million. The l=
ast
Triumph model was the Acclaim which was introduced in 1981. Many iconic
British sports cars were produced by Triumph in the 1960s and 1970s,
including:

   - *TR3** (1955-1957),* *TR3A* *(1957-1962)*
   - *TR3B* *(1961-?)* with 2,138cc inline 4 engine and all synchromesh
   transmission
   - *TR4* *(1961-1965)* with 2,138cc inline 4 engine, roll-up windows,
full synchromesh, rack & pinion steering and optional hardtop with integ=

   - *TR4A* *(1965-1968)* an evolution of the TR4, with updated chassis and
   independant rear suspension (IRS)
   - *TR5* *(1967-1968)* similar to the Michelotti TR4, but featuring a
2.5L straight 6 fuel injected (PI) engine developing ~150bhp that was
carried forward into the TR6. Standard equipment included front disc
brakes, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering and a four
   speed gearbox.
   - *TR250* *(1967-1968)* identical to the TR5, except fitted with twin
   Zenith-Stromberg carburettors, delivering 111 bhp (81 kW).
   - *TR6* *(1969-1976)*, the iconic TR sports car, with a 2498cc inline
six-cylinder engine, carburetted for the US and featuring Lucas mechanic=

Hello again,
Well, nothing is as simple as it seems, I guess. I wanted to give you guys =
an update on my 1976 Spitfire with ignition problems. Since the last email =
here's what's happening.I swapped out the wrong coil with the 3.0 ohm resis=
tance with a Lucas 1.5 resistance coil and reconnected the pink and white b=
allast/resistance/run wire. That helped a lot. The car started although need=
ed coaxed into an idle consistent enough for me to adjust the idle to aroun=
d 1K RPMS. I made a very minor adjustment to the timing and thought the idl=
e was rather steady and not surging and dropping as it was before. So I too=
k it for a drive around the block. I could tell immediately that it was str=
uggling in first gear and second. Nervous about getting stuck somewhere I h=
eaded home having only driven about 100 yards. The car just seemed hesitant=
to go as I carefully drove it back to the garage. At one point it backfire=
d very loudly, nearly scaring two passersby to death. Started me as well. I=
t felt like it wanted to stall again, but I made it back to the garage. Wha=
t's going on with a car that idles well but won't run well?
Here's a list of new parts and other info:
Compression test - 140 - 150 in all cylindersNew (Replaced within the last =
4 weeks), parts:- Distributor Cap and Rotor- Spark Plugs - From NGK to Cham=
pions- Spark Plug Wires - Sort of expensive set of Cobalt wires- Ignition C=
oil - Lucas Stock 1.5 Ohm resistance- Entire exhaust system although not pa=
rt of the problem
Earlier - Rebuilt in March 2019:- Carburetor=C2=A0- Distributor
Car has a=C2=A0Crane XR700 Fireball ignition also.
I'm up for any and all recommendations and assistance.
Much thanks again,
Kevin

 Hello all,
I hope you=E2=80=99re having a great summer. I planned to as well and expec=
ted to be attending British Car Days and other club events but my 1976 Spit=
fire is sidelined again with what seems like ignition problems.=C2=A0
Here=E2=80=99s the situation. I have a 1976 Spitfire with a Crane XR700 ign=
ition system.
