Hi Allen,=20
You may remember some folks put teflon sheets in between each of the rear l=
eaf spring's leaf layers.. talk about a job!..=20
I'd be hesitant using lighter weight shock oil although Wide World seems to=
make it sound Ok - bottoming out the live axle would be hard on the old ba=
ck - am interested in what World Wide has to say about it currently.
Best,Carl'63 TR4 since '74

Subject: [TR] TR4 rear dampers
I have a 62/63 TR4 (straight axle) which by definition equals a ?very firm =
ride?. I am wondering about replacing the damper oil with a lighter weight.=
Referring to Barney Gaylord?s page https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/suspensn/fs1=
10.htm=C2=A0 the standard weight oil is about 20W or ISO 68 (Peter Caldwell=
World Wide Imports). Hydraulic jack oil ISO 32 is 10W and fully compatible=
. I will call World Wide tomorrow for clarification. Has anyone tried this?
I?ll also try to grease the leaf springs as that was last done when I resto=
red the car 25 years ago. That?s a bit of a job and can open a can or worms=
since spreading the clamps around the leaves can sometimes break.
